One of my first projects for the Houston Public Library involved gathering key brand assets that define its identity while also establishing structure for the updated brand guidelines. This included the sections brand voice, taglines, logo usage, History Research Center logos, type/font pairing, brand colors, branding in use, and brand imagery.

The current HPL logo has been in use since April 2008 and symbolizes the transition and innovation within our organization. We provide stability and support to our community while embodying boldness, vibrancy, creativity, and innovation. The horizontal logo is used when clear space is constrained, such as on digital platforms and certain paraphernalia (pens, pencils, lanyards, etc.).

Myriad Pro is the preferred font used for the majority of our messaging. Century gothic is a clean, supportive font that helps in readability.

For promotional materials at the Houston Public Library (HPL), font sizes and types should be used to ensure readability and brand consistency. Use a clear, professional font type, such as Myriad Pro or Century Gothic, for body text and headers. Use the script text for special events or titles.

I was tasked with developing the structure of the updated brand guidelines for the Houston Public Library. This involved compiling existing brand assets, assigning new supporting colors to complement the primary color, and introducing dedicated colors for kids and teens to use for special occasions.
